Athletes in Action around the world and in Mongolia

There are over 6,000 spoken languages in the world today, but there is one that dominates all the rest, the language of sport. The 2012 London Summer Olympics was the most watched event in television history with an estimated 4 billion viewers. Children instinctivley have a natural desire to play and compete in sport. Not only can sport be used to develop our bodies, it can also be used to develop our spiritual being. Athletes in Action (AIA) is a Christian sport club that helps athletes understand biblical principals and the teachings of Jesus that relate to sport. AIA encourages athletes to reach there potential in competitive sports, but at the same time reminds them that our relationship with God has eternal significance.

Athletes in Action is a movement of Christian Athletes that began in 1966 and is now in 80 countries all over the world with over 500 full time staff and thousands of volunteers.  Through international sport exchanges we promote goodwill between countries. We help to sponsor competitions and encourage athletes to strive to do their best in developing their God given talent. In the Bible the Apostle Paul says in 1st Corinthians 9:24 "Do you not know that all those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win." Then the Apostle Paul goes on to say in the next verse "They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable."   Like Paul, the main purpose of Athletes in Action is to remind young athletes that sport is good and important, but our relationship with God should be the most important thing in our life.

The introduction of Athletes in Action Mongolia

1. Every year AIA Mongolia orgainizes a camp for cadet and junior freestyle wrestlers. At this camp we teach wrestling technique, coaching skills, and also have off the mat recreation. We also teach the wrestlers how faith in Jesus leads to a personal relationship God, our creator (our message).

2. AIA Mongolia hosts an annual international freestyle wrestling tournament for juniors and cadets called the "John Peterson Tournament". At the tournament the last 2 years, wrestling Olympic Champion, John Peterson, has spoken to the wrestlers, coaches, and fans about what lead him to faith in Jesus Christ and how that decision has changed his life.

3. We help organize sport exchanges where groups of high school and colligate athletes from the U.S. come to Mongolia for competition and training.  Also, AIA has helped to bring Mongolian teams to the US.

4.  AIA Mongolia helps organize and promote "Kids Games", a concept that has been developed by the International Sport Coalition. "Kids Games" is a series of organized activities for children which incorporate fun games along with character development. We have also helped to connect people who are interested in leading "Kids Games" with the International Sport Leadership Training

5. AIA Mongolia works together with Samaritan's Purse to do humanitarian activities. In the past three years we have distributed 6,700 Christmas presents that were collected from families in the U.S. and Germany. We have given these presents out to children in sports clubs, schools, orphanages, and kindergartens in eight different provinces in Mongolia.

6. We host an annual fall sport ministry conference for Christian athletes, coaches, and pastors who are interested in sports ministry and using their position to spread the gospel and have a spiritual influence on athletes and society.

7. In the area of media and publications, we have printed and distributed 4,000 copies of our "Sport Book of John" (Which can be found on our Publications page). Along with 2,000 DVDs of our four sport films. (Which can be viewed on our Films page and youtube) Our sport films have been viewed by thousands on Eagle T.V.
